PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Outside of occasional volunteering, parents are only responsible for getting their child to & from meets and practices, and helping them get the support they ASK for.

Track & Field is meant to be enjoyable, enriching, challenging, fulfilling, and an aspect of overall individual development.

Sometimes, even well-intentioned, supportive parents can unknowingly put pressure on their children. It is not for the parent to decide if how they are involved is pressuring. Parental pressure can really inhibit a child's motivation, enjoyment, and long-term success in Track and Field. Athletes need to be in control of their own trajectory and steering their own ship. Let your child ask for what they need and share what they would like to share about training and competition.

We ask that you respect the coaches and the relationship that exists between athlete and coach.  Training, planning, and adjustments should come only from the coaches to prevent any confusion, parental pressure, and the all too likely scenario of over training with parent involvement.  If the coaches feel any supplementary training or recovery support is needed, they will let you know.

If, as a parent, you ever have concerns, feedback, or questions, please point them to the coaches by email or phone directly, and not through the athlete.
